Madeline Stein, PLLC | Good Faith Estimate Notice

As a client receiving services you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your care (including mental health and physical health care) are expected to cost.

Federal law states that health care professionals need to provide clients and patients who don’t have insurance or are opting to pay out-of-pocket an estimate of the cost of services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for any non-emergency services, and related costs, such as medical tests, prescriptions medications, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • You may ask for a GFE at any time from your health care professional.

  • Your health care professional is required to provide a GFE 1 day prior to scheduled services; however, this standard has been delayed due to the complexities of enactment (see below).

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill.

  • Don’t forget to save a copy or picture of your GFE.

More information and answers to any questions you may have can be found at: www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
